چکیده
Heron triangles have the property that all three of their sides as well as their area are positive integers. In this paper, we give some estimates for the number of Heron triangles with two of their sides fixed. We provide a general bound on this count H(a, b), where the sides a, b are fixed positive integers, and the estimate here is better than the one of Ionascu, Luca and Stănică for the general situation of fixed sides a, b. In the case of primes sides p, q, there is an additional hypothesis which helps us to drop the upper bounds on H(p, q). In particular, we prove that H(p, q) is less than or equal to 1 when p − q ≡ 2 (mod 4). We also provide a count for the number of Heron triangles with a fixed height (there exists only one such when the height is prime). Moreover, we study the decomposability property of a Heron triangle into two similar ones, and provide some cases when a Heron triangle is not decomposable. INTEGERS: 13 (2013) 2

متن کاملA Remark on Prime Divisors of Lengths of Sides of Heron Triangles
A Heron triangle is a triangle having the property that the lengths of its sides as well as its area are positive integers. Let P be a fixed set of primes, let S denote the set of integers divisible only by primes in P. We prove that there are only finitely many Heron triangles whose sides a, b, c ∈ S and are reduced, that is gcd(a, b, c) = 1. If P contains only one prime ≡ 1 (mod 4) then all t...
متن کاملA ug 2 00 6 Heron triangles with two fixed sides
In this paper, we study the function H(a, b), which associates to every pair of positive integers a and b the number of positive integers c such that the triangle of sides a, b and c is Heron, i.e., has integral area. In particular, we prove that H(p, q) ≤ 5 if p and q are primes, and that H(a, b) = 0 for a random choice of positive integers a and b.
متن کاملHeron Quadrilaterals via Elliptic Curves
A Heron quadrilateral is a cyclic quadri lateral whose area and side lengths are rational. In this work, we establish a correspondence between Heron quadri laterals and a family of elliptic curves of the form y2 = 3 2 x + αx2 − n x. This correspondence generalizes the no tions of Goins and Maddox who established a similar connec tion between Heron triangles and elliptic curves. We further s...
متن کاملOn Heron Simplices and Integer Embedding
In [3] problem D22 Richard Guy asked for the existence of simplices with integer lengths, areas, volumes . . . . In dimension two this is well known, these triangles are called Heron triangles. Here I will present my results on Heron tetrahedra, their connection to the existence of an integer box (problem D18), the tools for the search for higher dimensional Heron simplices and my nice embeddin...
